Traditionally, Classic English Tea Merchants dedicated themselves to providing high quality teas in accordance with British tea industry standards. These standards were widely accepted in the Britain of the 1800s and 1900s vigorously applied so that the good and fine teas were selected, carefully blended in the right proportions, and offered for sale on the basis of clearly defined and widely accepted grades and standards. Unfortunately, over the years, quality levels were diluted in most of the western world. In the case of America, which has been primarily a coffee drinking nation, the experience and knowledge of the tea industry was never completely developed. While the U.S. has been in the forefront of production and innovation (e.g. the teabag, iced tea), the specific skills of tasting, buying and blending teas were not well developed.
